History of the Location

The town of Morecambe is situated in the picturesque Morecambe Bay in Lancashire. Around 35,000 people live here and it is well known as the home of comedian Eric Morecambe. John Whitaker first mentioned this location in the book ‘History of Manchester’, published in 1771. However, it is believed that the location dates back further into the Roman period.

By March 1862, Morecambe as we know it was born. The areas of Poulton, Bare and Torrisholme were merged in 1889 to form one large location. Regular train journeys ran to the town from places across Lancashire and Yorkshire. As a result, it became a haven for miners and industrial workers looking to escape the city.

Today tourists still flock to the coast to enjoy days out by the sea. Morecambe holiday parks are still popular with visitors and offer the ideal place to rest.
